Woolpower was founded in Ostersund, Sweden in 1969. Originally founded to produce nylon stockings, Ullfrotté Original was developed in collaboration with the Swedish military a few years later. The first Ullfrotté garments were produced in 1972.

Woolpower is fully committed to the production of warm undergarments and mid-layer clothing sold under the brand name Woolpower. The company employs about 70 people and the entire production is in Östersund, in the northern part of Sweden. Approximately 80% of the sales are exported to about 25 countries all over the world.

The goal of Woolpower is to make high quality, highly functional products that last a long time. The production in Östersund is quality controlled and certified in accordance with ISO 9001:2000, and they are continuously working on improving many aspects of their business.

Having the entire production in Östersund allows all employees, even the ones that are not directly involved with production, to have an insight into how the various items are made. Woolpower has full control of their production and can ensure the highest quality.

In Östersund with its cold climate, those who work at Woolpower do not have to travel far to test their products. In addition, there are consumers spanning the globe who use the products in various environments and climates giving Woolpower valuable feedback.
Some of the reasons to why Woolpower products offer such a high standard of quality and longevity are:

FEW SEAMS THAT CAN RUB AND TEAR
Woolpower looks at seams as something negative They are the weakest point in the material and present the highest risk of tears. In addition, seams in general are less elastic and not as soft as the rest of the garment. Most Woolpower garments are constructed of finished “tubes”, with minimal seaming, ensuring more comfort for the wearer. Even the cuffs for both arms and legs are made in one piece.

MANUFACTURING IS A CRAFT
No employee of Woolpower does piece work; they all have a monthly salary. The most important thing is not to make
as many garments as possible, but to make garments of the highest quality. Therefore, there are various controls and tests throughout our production process to make sure that no errors will occur. Each garment is made by one seamstress who also does the final quality control on the finished item. The seamstress checks the garment and approves it by sewing in her name label. We are proud of what we make and we stand behind what we do.

Of course, errors can occur. If the error is a cosmetic blemish that does not affect the item’s function, the garment is sold as a factory second in an outlet store. If the error is grave enough that we still cannot sell it, we give the garment away to charity.

NOT 100% WOOL
Wool is a unique raw material with many positive characters. But wool is not as wear-resistant as synthetic fibers. Because of this, Woolpower blends the wool with polyester, among other fibers, which allows us to keep the wool’s character while simultaneously making the garments stronger than if  the garments were made from 100% wool.

At Woolpower the ambition is to make even better products by using even better raw materials and new refining methods.
